CONCERT REVIEW

Daniel Caesar brings an arena show to life at Kemba LIVE!, an outdoor venue that holds up to 5,200 screaming fans. With grassy lawn space provided for those avoiding the energized pit, Daniel Caesar gives what is expected with a crowd full of sing-a-longs. Caesar’s stage design was the most impressive part of the set in my opinion, where it was a simple rectangle stage with custom built lights as the platform elevating the overall experience. Where Caesar’s set doesn’t have many crowd interactions, it has built in interactions as 3 screens were projecting a live feed video from a handheld camera traveling through the crowd. This creates an interesting atmosphere of individuality of each show, providing an experience only the crowd of that specific venue can enjoy. My favorite part of the whole show, which I make an attempt to scout ahead of time by looking up the tour’s set list to make sure I’m prepared for specific songs and interactions, was the switch up in the cover song. In past tour stops, Caesar would play a cover of a Coldplay song, at his stop in Columbus, Caesar changed songs for the depressed indie rock recognized city of Columbus, Ohio and played a cover of Creep by Radiohead. This even more slowed version of the song, with simple strumming patterns allowed the crowd to really dig deep in the already emotional set. Caesar’s music focuses around being individual, searching for meaning, being struck down and learning to enjoy the process. His cover of Creep Feeds the craving of sad hours music grew his fandom just that much more. Expect Caesar to play an arena venue near you. Be prepared for all the vibes.
