San Holo

San Holo

The Majestic Theater Detroit, MI

Fresh off the release of his newest album Existential Dance Music, San Holo made his way to Detroit for a rare, yet extremely energetic, Sunday night show. The night started with an opening set from OddKidOut. Known for his releases on BitBird and OWSLA, OddKidOut played a variety of trap, dubstep, and future bass. On Instagram, you can find various videos of OddKidOut finger drumming along to his songs. I was very impressed to see him do that in a live setting without any flaws. It was an amazing set overall. Next up was a second opening set from DROELOE. I had the opportunity to see DROELOE headline a show at the same venue the year prior, so I was super excited to go back for round two. DROELOE just recently finished a tour for his album The Art of Change and is back on the road for a good part of the tour. DROELOE definitely did not disappoint. I can’t say I have ever seen a DJ that also plays the trumpet during songs, so to be able to experience that talent was pretty amazing. The set contained lots of classics, new songs and ended with some crazy drum and bass. Going into the night, I had seen San Holo perform three other times. Perform at festivals each time, so I was excited to see how it would be at a headline show. I knew the show would be a great time, but I was not prepared for just how awesome it would be. The set started with one of my favorite songs of his, Lift Me From The Ground. From that, the energetic feeling in the room would continue for the rest of the night. The set was full of good vibes and great music. San Holo is a great live performer and it really helped to shape the show. Being able to hear the guitar live as well as to hear him sing felt like an amazing compliment to the electronic beats.

The production for this show was insane. They really took advantage of the lasers, lights, and smoke machines to create something special.

After attending so many shows that solely rely on LED screens, it was super refreshing to see a show that utilized other production materials as well. I was blown away by the use of giant sheets and projectors to create some awesome atmospheric looking effects throughout the show. I believe the show was one of my favorites of all time and probably my favorite this year. I highly recommend seeing San Holo in concert if you have the chance as it was more than worth it.
